Kyle Haugen received his Bachelor of Music Education degree in 2001 from Augustana College, in Sioux Falls, SD. At Augustana he participated in Brass Choir, Trumpet Choir, Trombone Choir, Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble, Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble. During this time he performed with the Dubuque Colts & Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps.
From 2001-2003 Mr. Haugen was Director of Bands (grades 5-12) at Spring Grove Public Schools in Spring Grove, MN. In 2003, he became the associate director of bands at Washington High School in Sioux Falls, SD. During this time he received the “Teacher of the Month” award and was nominated into the “Who’s Who Among American Teachers.” In the summer of 2004, he received his Master of Music degree in Conducting from Southern Oregon University in Ashland, OR.
In 2005, Mr. Haugen served as the associate director of bands at Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls, SD. While there, ensembles under his direction received superior ratings in the concert and jazz band areas. During 2006, he team taught a band methods class at the University of Sioux Falls. He also was a guest conductor for the Southwest Minnesota Private School Honor Band & Choir.
Mr. Haugen started his current position as Director of Bands at Bellevue West High School in 2007. His ensembles have received superior ratings in concert, marching and jazz. He is an active drill writer for bands in the Midwest and has adjudicated marching and small group contests in Nebraska and South Dakota. He is also a member of Phi Beta Mu, MENC and NSBA. His hobbies include golf, tennis and traveling.
